Kenya's Two Seasons — Dry and Green
Kenya has two dry seasons (January–March and June–October) and two wet seasons. Both dry seasons offer outstanding game viewing.
July – October: The Peak Season
The Great Migration arrives in the Maasai Mara. The Mara River crossings — where crocodiles ambush the herds — are among the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on earth. Book at least 9 months ahead.
January – February: The Quiet Season
Arguably the most underrated months. Crowds are thin, rates are lower, and Amboseli is at its best with Kilimanjaro sharply visible.
June: Start of Peak Season
The dry season begins and is an excellent value month — the migration hasn't arrived yet but wildlife viewing is excellent.
November – December: Short Rains
Light showers bring the landscape to vivid green. Birding is spectacular. Prices are at their lowest.
Our Recommendation
Target August or September for the full migration. Choose January or early June for best value. Try late November for a wilderness experience with almost no other visitors.
